Pre-bridal skincare routine at home: a 4-week plan for glowing skin before your wedding

A week-by-week pre-bridal skincare routine you can follow at home: what to start a month before the wedding, what to add, what to stop in the final week, and smog-season tips for winter brides.

Pre-bridal skincare routine: Anua toner, Beauty of Joseon serum and AXIS-Y sunscreen

Wedding season is here. Between the dholki, mehndi, barat and walima, a bride can be in front of a camera for five or six days in a row, often under heavy makeup and harsh lights.

No routine changes your skin overnight. But four weeks of simple, steady care is enough to make a visible difference to how calm, smooth and hydrated it looks, and makeup sits far better on skin like that. This is a week-by-week plan you can follow at home, with nothing in it that needs a clinic.

Three rules before you start

  • Patch test everything new. Apply a little behind the ear or on the side of the jaw for two or three days before using it on your whole face.
  • Add one new product at a time, a few days apart. If something disagrees with your skin, you will know which one it was.
  • Nothing new in the final week. The last seven days are for the routine your skin already knows. A reaction three days before the barat is the one thing you cannot fix in time.

If you are planning a facial, peel or any salon treatment, book it at least two weeks before the first function, with someone whose work your skin has handled before.

The daily routine (all four weeks)

Morning

  1. Cleanse with your usual gentle cleanser, or just water if your skin is dry.
  2. Tone: pat a hydrating toner into damp skin.
  3. Serum: one serum, chosen for your main concern (below).
  4. Moisturise.
  5. Sunscreen, every day, even in winter and even indoors near a window. Sun is what deepens dark spots.

Night

  1. Cleanse twice if you wore sunscreen or makeup: an oil or balm first, then your gentle cleanser.
  2. Tone.
  3. Serum or treatment.
  4. Moisturise. In winter, a slightly richer cream at night helps.

That is the whole routine. Everything in the weeks below is an add-on to it.

Week 4 (a month before): set the base

Pick the routine that matches your skin and use it morning and night, every day.

  • Dull skin or uneven tone: a brightening routine with niacinamide, rice and alpha-arbutin. Our Glow & Brighten Routine is the three steps in one box: Anua Peach 77 Niacin Essence Toner, Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum and AXIS-Y physical sunscreen.
  • Sensitive, red or easily irritated skin: a soothing routine built on heartleaf and centella. The Soothe & Hydrate Routine pairs Anua Heartleaf 77% Toner with SKIN1004 Centella Ampoule and Hyalu-Cica Moisture Cream.

Start drinking enough water and getting proper sleep now too. Neither is glamorous, and both show on your face by the barat.

Week 3: add one targeted step

Choose the one thing that bothers you most, and add one product for it.

  • Dark spots or marks from old breakouts: a niacinamide and tranexamic acid serum such as Anua Niacinamide 10% + TXA 4% Serum. Use it with daily sunscreen, or the spots will keep darkening.
  • Tired under-eyes: an eye serum at night, such as Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng + Retinal. It contains a retinoid, so start every other night, always wear sunscreen in the morning, and check with your doctor first if you are pregnant or trying to be.
  • Dryness and flaking: skip the extra serum and go richer on moisture. Our winter routine for dry skin has the details.

Week 2: hydrate and refine

  • Sheet mask twice a week after toner, at night. The Bio Collagen Real Deep Mask and the Hydro Cera-nol Real Deep Mask are both made for this.
  • Oily T-zone or clogged pores: a clay mask once a week, on those areas only. The Poremizing Quick Clay Stick Mask goes on like a stick, so it is easy to keep off dry cheeks.
  • Don't forget your neck, hands and back. Off-shoulder and backless blouses show far more skin than your face. Take your moisturiser and sunscreen down to your neck and chest every day.

The final week: change nothing

  • Keep the exact routine you have been using. No new serums, masks or home remedies.
  • Get threading or waxing done a few days before each function, not the same morning.
  • The night before the mehndi and the barat, use a sheet mask your skin already knows, then a good layer of moisturiser.
  • On the day, apply moisturiser 15 to 20 minutes before your makeup artist starts, so it has settled before foundation goes on.

Getting married in Lahore? Smog-season extras

Wedding season and smog season are the same months in Punjab. Polluted air leaves a film on the skin and can leave it drier and more easily irritated, so:

  • Cleanse properly every evening, and twice if you were out for long.
  • Keep your skin barrier strong with moisturiser morning and night. Calm, hydrated skin copes better.
  • Wear sunscreen anyway. A grey sky still lets UV through.
  • Wear a mask outdoors on bad-air days. It protects your lungs and keeps grime off the skin it covers.
  • If your skin turns red or stings, switch to soothing products for a few days: heartleaf and centella are good choices, and the Dr. Althea 345 Relief Cream is made for exactly that.

Under the outfit

Skin is one half of feeling good on the day. The other half is what you wear under the lehenga. Our guide to strapless bras for wedding season covers off-shoulder, sweetheart and backless blouses, and the test to run before the mehndi.

Frequently asked questions

How long before the wedding should I start a skincare routine?

The earlier the better, but a month is enough for a simple routine to show. What matters most is using it every day, not how many products are in it.

Can I try a new product a week before my wedding?

It is safer not to. If your skin reacts, there is no time for it to settle before the functions. Keep new products for after the walima.

Should I get a facial before my wedding?

If you want one, have it at least two weeks before the first function, at a place you have used before, so any redness or breakouts have time to clear.

What can I do at home the night before the barat?

Cleanse, tone, use a sheet mask your skin already knows, moisturise, and sleep. That is all your skin needs.

Does smog really affect your skin?

Polluted air can leave skin drier and more easily irritated. Cleansing properly at night, moisturising well and wearing sunscreen are the simple habits that help most.
